Welcome to The Riley Fund Website
Riley is a 4 year old boy, born in Reading, Berkshire. He currently lives on Anglesey, North Wales.
Riley was born almost 3 months early, shortly after birth he was struggling to breathe and needed immediate oxygen. He was later diagnosed with Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) and as a result has Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy.
One of the symptoms that affect Riley is that it causes tightness in his legs, so he is unable stand or to walk independently. He uses a Kaye walking frame to get around; however can only sustain his strength to be in this for short periods of time, and at home he mainly crawls to move around.
After researching potential treatments to help Riley walk, we have heard about an operation that so far around 100 UK children have had. This is called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). This is only offered in America, and has a 100% success rate from the St Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri. They have been carrying out this operation now for over 25 years.
The aim is to raise £45,000 to send Riley to America to the St Louis Children’s Hospital for the SDR operation. To do this we will need as much or as little as you can give, to raise the much needed funds for this amazing little boy.
